Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticized the Bola Tinubu administration, saying ransom payments have become as routine for many Nigerians as school fees and rent.

In a statement released through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku faulted the Presidency for celebrating debt statistics while the country faces severe insecurity and economic hardship.

He said the comparison of Nigeria’s borrowing level with some African countries showed a troubling disconnect from the realities ordinary Nigerians face daily. Atiku described a country where families fear midnight calls about abducted relatives, farmers are driven off their lands, and road travel has become a gamble with death.
The former vice president argued that insecurity has worsened food production, pushed up food prices, and deepened hunger and malnutrition. He added that borrowing is not the problem on its own, but said the current administration has used loans to sustain waste and failed policies instead of productive investments.
Atiku urged the government to stop propaganda and confront the nation’s economic and security crises with urgency and sincerity.
