What does the APC gain by putting three non-APC figures in charge of its campaign in Rivers, Anambra and Osun?

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has named FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Anambra Governor Chukwuma Soludo and Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke as state campaign coordinators in its expanded presidential campaign council for the 2027 general election, even though all three belong to other parties.

Who will coordinate what

Under the new arrangement, Wike will coordinate the APC campaign in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory. Soludo will oversee the campaign in Anambra, while Adeleke will coordinate in Osun.

President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to inaugurate the expanded council at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday.

Changes to the original list

The APC first released its campaign council list on August 22. It named Abdulaziz Yari, a former Zamfara governor, as director-general, with Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and Yobe Governor Mai Mala Buni as deputy director-generals.

In the revised list, Akpabio, Abbas and Kwara Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq become deputy vice-chairmen I, II and III, respectively. Buni moves to deputy director-general I for the North.

Advisers and directorate

The council also names former governors and party figures as advisers. They include former APC national chairmen Adebisi Akande and Abdullahi Adamu, and former Ogun governors Ibikunle Amosun and Segun Osoba. Others are former Osun governor Iyiola Omisore, Senators Ibrahim Dankwambo and George Akume, and Wale Edun. Obafemi George is listed as an adviser on media.

The Directorate of Election Planning, Coordination, Monitoring and Mobilisation, set up for the 2027 elections, has Faleke as deputy director-general. Stella Okotete and Engr. Abdullahi Garba Ramat serve as Secretary I and Secretary II, respectively, and Audu Maikori is also listed as a secretary. Other members include Soares Omotola, Bashir Dabo, Sheriff Mohammed Usman, Jibrin Bancir, Ayoola Peter Olajolo, Abubakar Sadiq Sada and Princess Folasade Ogunbiyi.
