Controversial Nigerian singer and rapper Speed Darlington has said he is unhappy that he remains unmarried and childless as he approaches his 60th birthday. He said this in a recent video, admitting that despite his achievements he wants more from life than “American papers” and is seeking family, freedom and respect.

“I am close to 60 with no wife or child. Is this how I am going to live my life?” he asked, adding that he wants a family and a more fulfilling life. His comments have reignited public discussion about his long-running search for a partner.

In past years Speed Darlington publicly listed the qualities he wants in a wife including being dark-skinned, aged about 18–23, at least 5ft 8in tall, under 150 pounds, and fluent in English and Igbo — but he has not yet found a spouse. The entertainer has also offered money in the past to any woman willing to bear his child, drawing further attention and debate online.
