Igboho said the operatives were wounded during an operation to track suspected kidnappers and other armed criminals in the forest reserve but have since received medical care and recovered. He added that the team had used surveillance drones to locate suspected hideouts and monitor armed groups before entering the area.

The ambush reportedly escalated into a heavy gun battle after heavily armed men—believed to be part of cross-border criminal networks—opened fire on the Iru Ekun operatives, injuring several members. Despite the attack, Igboho said the incident had not weakened the group’s resolve and vowed to continue efforts to drive out those disturbing the peace of the region.
