Ogunwuyi stepped down on Monday, October 12, 2026. His departure is one of several by political appointees over the past two months, and it has drawn attention to the political tensions within the state government.

Speculation about the APC
Sources familiar with developments in Oyo State say the resignation may be linked to internal disagreements within the governor’s political camp, and that Ogunwuyi could be considering a move to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“There have been internal disagreements within the political camp, and Ogunwuyi’s resignation has further fuelled speculation about possible realignments ahead of the 2027 elections,” one source said. The same source added: “There are suggestions that he could be considering joining the APC, but we cannot say that definitively at this stage.”
There has been no official confirmation of a defection. Neither Ogunwuyi nor the governor’s office has publicly acknowledged any such plan, and his resignation letter does not give a reason for leaving.
What the resignation letter says
In the letter, dated October 12, 2026, Ogunwuyi said his resignation took effect immediately and thanked Makinde for the opportunity to serve. “I respectfully write to resign my appointment as Chief of Staff to the Governor of Oyo State, with effect from today, 12th October, 2026,” he wrote.
He described his time in office as fulfilling and said he was proud of what the administration had achieved. “Serving the Government and the good people of Oyo State has been a great honour. It has been deeply fulfilling to be part of the exceptional team that has worked relentlessly to deliver the remarkable achievements of this administration,” he wrote.
He said he remained confident in the state’s continued progress and closed by reaffirming his loyalty to Oyo State and the country.
Background
Ogunwuyi is a former member of the Oyo State House of Assembly and the House of Representatives, and held a prominent position in Makinde’s administration as Chief of Staff.
His exit raises questions about the strength of the governor’s political camp ahead of the 2027 polls, with Makinde himself now the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) presidential candidate.
