After less than two years of marriage, MacKenzie Scott, the ex-wife of billionaire Jeff Bezos, filed for divorce from her new teacher husband.
It’d be remembered Scott wed science instructor Dan Jewett in Seattle the previous year after divorcing Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos in 2019.
On Monday, September 26, 2022, Ms. Scott submitted a petition for divorce to the King County Superior Court in Washington State, according to a copy of the document.
When Jewett, then a science instructor at Seattle’s Lakeside School, where Scott’s children had taken school, wrote a note to Scott’s profile on the “Giving Pledge,” the marriage became public in March 2021.
The Giving Pledge, a humanitarian organization that inspires the world’s wealthiest individuals to donate the majority of their fortune to charitable causes, posted a statement on the couple’s homepage announcing their marriage.
As part of her strategy to contribute the vast majority of her wealth, Scott has donated billions of dollars.
I joined her in a pledge to pass on an immense financial riches to help others since I am married to one of the most kind and lovely persons I know, she added.
Scott and Jeff Bezos, the creator of Amazon, divorced after 25 years of marriage in 2019. Scott received around 4% of Amazon, a share that was worth about $36 billion at the time.
With a net worth of $28.9 billion as of Wednesday afternoon, she is one of the richest women in the world and is placed No. 39 on the Bloomberg Billionaire’s Index.
