The actor announced he will be gunning for the Abuja Municipal/Bwari federal constituency under the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), saying he is driven by a desire to help build a “proper systematic structure” capable of transforming governance and accelerating national development.

Speaking with characteristic flair, Ike made his ambitions clear: “I am running for the federal house of representatives under the Bwari federal constituency in Abuja. We want to make a statement. Let us see how we bring dividends close to you. Let us block the boys who think they have the power — if we stand, they will run.”

A video making the rounds online shows the actor collecting his nomination form from a party official, marking the formal kickoff of his campaign. A source within his campaign team further revealed that Ike has already secured victory at the NDC primaries and is now setting his sights firmly on 2027.

This is not Ike’s first brush with electoral politics. Back in 2018, he contested for a House of Representatives seat in Ideato South, Imo State, under the Young Progressive Party (YPP) — a bid that did not succeed but clearly did not dampen his political appetite.

His move into the political arena joins a widening trend of Nigerian entertainers crossing over into public office ahead of the next election cycle.

On the professional front, Ike remains one of Nollywood’s most enduring faces. He first captured audiences in the 1994 classic Deadly Affair and built an impressive filmography alongside industry giants including Genevieve Nnaji, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Rita Dominic, Ramsey Nouah, and Jim Iyke, among others. After a lengthy absence, he made a well-received return to screens in 2023, featuring in Toyin Abraham’s Malaika.
