Ambassador Blessing Fubara, younger brother of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has thrown his hat into the ring for the 2027 governorship election, announcing his candidacy under the platform of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).

The declaration was made in an official statement released Thursday in Abuja, where the aspirant outlined his vision to revive economic prosperity and restore political stability to Rivers State.

Describing himself as competent, energetic and thoroughly prepared, Blessing Fubara framed his ambition around a single rallying cry — restoring the soul of Rivers.
He cited a deteriorating economic climate, dwindling investments and mounting frustration among residents as the driving forces behind his decision to enter the race.
“The need to reverse the impoverishment of Rivers people, the loss of investments, dignity and opportunities in the state spurred me into this race,” he said.
Painting a bleak picture of the state’s current standing, Fubara was unflinching in his assessment, yet equally defiant in his outlook. “Today, we see a Rivers that is distressed, shortchanged and almost seeming like a conquered state, but we are not a conquered people,” he declared.
He called on supporters across all 23 local government areas to mobilise and engage actively in the electoral process, urging them to collectively reclaim what he described as the state’s political and economic future.
In a notable pledge, Fubara committed to serving just a single four-year term if elected — a decision he said was deliberately designed to protect the existing rotational power-sharing arrangement in the state. According to him, the Rivers South-East Senatorial District deserves to complete its full eight-year cycle under the established zoning formula, and any disruption to that structure risks setting a dangerous precedent that could destabilise governance for years to come.
The ambassador rounded off his declaration by emphasising that his gubernatorial ambition is ultimately anchored in the pursuit of unity, inclusiveness and sustainable development across Rivers State as the 2027 general elections draw closer.
