A memo issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, has announced the exit of two ministers from the federal cabinet, with their successors already identified.
Wale Edun, who had been serving as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, is among those leaving. He is expected to hand over his duties to Taiwo Oyedele, a former minister of state within the same ministry, who will now assume the full ministerial role.
In the Housing and Urban Development Ministry, Ahmed Dangiwa is also being replaced. Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named as the ministerial nominee and minister-designate for the portfolio, while Dangiwa is to pass responsibilities to the minister of state in the interim. The memo stipulated that all transition processes must be concluded by the close of business on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
Akume, speaking on behalf of President Tinubu, described the reshuffle as a move to foster greater cohesion and coordination within the government, with the broader goal of delivering more meaningful economic outcomes for Nigerians under the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He further noted that the president acted within his constitutional authority in approving the changes, citing Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended. The president extended his appreciation to the departing ministers for their contributions and wished them well going forward. Akume also conveyed the president’s assurance that efforts to reinvigorate the cabinet would remain an ongoing process.
