In the midst of increasing interest in his long-promised school project, well-known Twitch broadcaster and internet celebrity Kai Cenat has returned to Lagos, making his second trip to Nigeria.

On Wednesday, Cenat was greeted with a band performance at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, which immediately created a stir on social media.

The visit takes place about a year after his initial journey to Nigeria, when he promised to donate $5 million to construct a school for kids in Makoko, the waterfront neighbourhood known as Lagos’ floating slum.

Following that pledge, the project encountered delays linked to land acquisition and regulatory approvals in Makoko. Due to the area’s unique floating structures, plans were later adjusted, with the proposed school site moved to Yaba, a more stable part of Lagos. Despite the relocation, Cenat has maintained that children from Makoko will receive free education once the school becomes operational.

Progress on the initiative was publicly addressed during Mafiathon 3, where Cenat disclosed that over $1 million has already been raised toward the project. He also outlined plans for phased spending and long-term sustainability, stressing that the goal is to build an institution that will last rather than rush construction.

Cenat’s return has reignited excitement among Nigerian fans, many of whom are hopeful his presence signals fresh momentum for the project. At the same time, some online users continue to express scepticism, calling for visible on-ground progress and clearer timelines.

His visit comes against the backdrop of growing interest from global streamers in Nigeria. About two weeks ago, fellow American streamer IShowSpeed visited the country, drawing massive crowds and viral moments as he toured Lagos and interacted with fans and local creators. The back-to-back visits have further highlighted Nigeria’s rising profile in global digital culture.

With Cenat now back in Lagos, attention is once again focused on whether this second trip will translate into concrete steps toward fulfilling one of his most ambitious promises yet.
