Youths Destroy Shrines in Onne Community Over Alleged Ritual Practices

A coalition of youths in Onne community, Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, on Monday raided and destroyed several shrines in the area, citing efforts to end what they described as demonic and ritual activities.

The youths, led by Comrade Gift Aken and Pastor Arun Ejor, stormed the shrines on Monday, August 17, 2026, in a coordinated action targeting sites they linked to occult practices.

Among the shrines destroyed was one belonging to a woman identified as Ezewanyi, whom the youths accused of practising traditional rituals for several years. Other suspected shrines in the community were also affected in the operation.

Speaking on the action, the youths said their decision was aimed at ridding Onne of shrines allegedly associated with harmful or occult practices, insisting that such sites would no longer be tolerated in the community.
