A woman identified as Shobowale Balikis has been intercepted by officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Ogun State Command, over an alleged attempt to smuggle contraband into the Ibara Custodial Centre in Abeokuta.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Odukoya Olayinka, disclosed the incident in a statement issued on Sunday, September 27, 2026.

According to the statement, Balikis was intercepted by correctional officers at around 3:50 p.m. on Saturday, allegedly attempting to conceal a substance inside a bottled-water pack said to be intended for an inmate. The substance was later identified as ethanol, disguised to look like drinking water.
Officers’ swift intervention prevented the substance from reaching inmates inside the facility. The suspect has since been handed over to the Nigeria Police for further investigation, with legal proceedings expected to follow.
The Controller of Corrections for the Ogun State Command, Abioye Kamoru Adesina, reiterated the command’s zero-tolerance policy toward smuggling and other activities that could compromise the security and integrity of correctional facilities, describing the incident as a reflection of the service’s commitment to maintaining safety, discipline, and order within the correctional system.
