Enugu, Nigeria — The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has declared that the South East region of Nigeria has no justification to complain about the administration of President Bola Tinubu. Umahi made the remarks during an inspection of a major federal road infrastructure project in Enugu state.
Highlighting the ongoing 528-kilometer road project valued at about ₦15 trillion, executed by China Harbour Engineering Company, the minister described the initiative as a clear demonstration of the Tinubu administration’s commitment to developing the South East. He praised the quality of work and expressed confidence that the project will significantly enhance connectivity and economic growth in the region.
Umahi further urged residents and leaders of the South East to acknowledge President Tinubu’s efforts and embrace his policies, warning against complaints rooted in sentiment rather than tangible results. He stated that such infrastructure projects are unprecedented in the region and emphasized the positive impact on job creation and commerce.
Additionally, Umahi reaffirmed Tinubu’s commitment to continuing large-scale infrastructure development across all geopolitical zones in Nigeria and mentioned the president’s plans to seek a second term to ensure the completion of ongoing projects.
The minister’s comments come amid some criticisms from voices in the South East, which Umahi dismissed as uninformed and politically motivated. His call is for unity and focused support to sustain national development momentum.
President Tinubu’s administration has prioritized road infrastructure as a key driver for economic transformation, with the Ministry of Works leading several critical projects nationwide under Umahi’s leadership since his appointment in August 2023.
