Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State said the identities of those behind last Sunday’s att@ck in Angwam community remain unknown.
Speaking to journalists after meeting President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday, April 1, Mutfwang briefed the president on the incident and the state’s response.
“What happened on Sunday evening was quite unfortunate, but the situation has been brought under control now,” he said. “We’ve evacuated corpses to the mortuary. Some families have already buried their loved ones.
“We imposed a curfew, which we relaxed this morning from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. But unfortunately, there were some looters who tried to disrupt the peace again. I’m glad that the security forces were able to calm the situation by noon, and presently, it’s well under control.”
The governor noted that the motive is still unclear. “In a crisis of this nature, you can’t reduce it to one reason. It’s a mixture of multiple reasons, and sometimes you can only deduce the actual reasons when you identify both the victims and the attackers.
“Unfortunately, we’ve not been able to lay hands on the attackers yet to know their identities and motive. But we are seeing this as an act of criminality. It’s barbaric. We condemn it.”
