The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two suspects over the kidnapping and m8rder of their relative’s 9-year-old son Barhama Abubakar, in Alkaleri Local Government Area.
The spokesperson for the command, SP Nafiu Habib, who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, April 1, 2026, said the suspects, Yahaya Zubairu and Babangida Muhammad, conspired and kidnapped the victim for ransom.
According to the PPRO, the due demanded a ransom of N1m from the victim’s father.
Upon receiving the report, the police swung into action, arrested the suspects and recovered the victim’s decomposed body.
Habib said the suspects tied the victim’s neck and legs, which led to his d3ath.
“On 31 March 2026, Mr. Abubakar Saleh, 45, of Kufa Jalingo, Alkaleri LGA, reported his 9-year-old son, Barhama Abubakar, kidnapped on 21 March 2026. A N1,000,000 ransom demand was made,” the statement read.
“Police detectives, led by the DPO Alkaleri Division, arrested relatives, Yahaya Zubairu, 20, and Babangida Muhammad, 20, living in the same compound. The victim’s decomposed body was recovered; medical exam confirmed d3ath.
“Yahaya and Babangida allegedly conspired, kidnapped, tied the victim’s neck and legs, causing d3ath.
“Babangida, a cousin, lured the victim by sending him to buy biscuit and deliver it to him at a designated primary school. The duo picked up victim from there to the scene where they committed the alleged crime.
“Suspects confessed, stating they targeted the victim’s father, believing he had much money.
“Investigation is ongoing. The case will be transferred to SCID. CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, mni, psc (+), urges parents/guardians to be vigilant and report suspicious activities.”
