Peter Obi Denies Bwala’s Claim of 2023 Campaign Recruitment Bid

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has rejected allegations from Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser on Policy Communication to President Bola Tinubu, that Obi tried to recruit him for his election campaign. Obi called the claim baseless and unworthy of response.

In a statement issued Friday in Abuja by his media aide, Ibrahim Umar, Obi stressed he had no dealings with Bwala and rejects “transactional politics.” Though the allegation typically wouldn’t warrant a reply due to Bwala’s “well-documented history of dishonesty,” Obi responded in the public interest to prevent misinformation.

The statement sharply contrasted Obi’s principles with Bwala’s approach: “Obi excludes individuals like Bwala from his political activities and any transactional politics that sustain people like him. He would rather allocate resources to provide desks for children in Bwala’s village than pay him to concoct falsehoods.”

Bwala had claimed he turned down the offer despite respecting the former governor
