A Nigerian man has drawn attention online after questioning what he described as a growing preference among women to remain unmarried.

Ebube Israel, writing on a matchmaking platform, said a 30-year-old woman he approached in Port Harcourt told him she would rather be a single mother than enter into marriage, arguing that marriage offered nothing she could not obtain outside it. He said she added that she did not wish to be “tied down” by a marital commitment.

Israel said he was taken aback by the response, particularly given the woman’s age and location, and asked whether men were finding it increasingly difficult to secure wives.
