Nigerians are advised not to eat a recalled batch of Indomie Vegetable Flavor noodles due to the presence of unreported allergens, according to a public health advisory from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
The agency claims that the warning comes after Rappel Conso, the French food safety authority, issued a recall notice after tests showed that the product contained milk and egg allergens that weren’t specified on the label. The omission, according to NAFDAC, puts people who are allergic or intolerant to these compounds at grave danger for health problems.
The agency explained that undeclared allergens such as milk and eggs can trigger severe allergic reactions, including breathing difficulties and other potentially life-threatening responses. It stressed that accurate product labelling is essential for consumer safety, particularly for people with known food allergies.
NAFDAC stated that the risk cannot be totally eliminated, even though the Federal Government’s restriction on the importation of noodles lessens the possibility of the impacted product entering Nigeria. The organization cautioned that illegal imports, internet retailers, and foreign visitors might still bring such goods into the nation.
To stop the recalled Indomie noodles from being sold in local markets, NAFDAC has increased monitoring and surveillance across the country. Retailers, distributors, and other participants in the food supply chain have been urged to exercise caution and refrain from selling or distributing the impacted goods.
