Liz Truss resignation triggered a comeback for Boris Johnson

Earlier these morning, Boris Johnson took a flight back to London in the likely anticipation that it would be the beginning of his victorious comeback

Several controversies led to Johnson’s resignation as prime minister in July. According to supporters, when he returned to the UK after his Caribbean vacation, Johnson planned to run to succeed Liz Truss as premier.

According to PA, Johnson assured UK Trade Minister James Duddridge that he was “up for it.” He said he will participate in the leadership race even though he is currently being investigated by the house for allegedly lying to legislators.

Six weeks into her dismal tenure, which plunged Britain into a severe political and economic crisis, Truss announced her resignation on Thursday. Her replacement will be the sixth prime minister to rule the nation since the 2016 Brexit referendum.

Priti Patel, a former home secretary, joined the list of Johnson’s most prominent backers on Saturday. In a tweet, she said that Boris “has the mandate to fulfill our elected platform and a demonstrated track record getting the major choices right.”

However, his potential comeback as prime minister has caused a rift in the Conservative Party, with many legislators appalled by the idea of a second Johnson government.

Even Dominic Raab, Johnson’s former deputy prime minister, and foreign secretary, told the BBC that “we cannot go backwards” and mentioned that Johnson is under investigation for the infamous “partygate affair” involving unauthorized parties in Downing Street.

The Commons Privileges Committee, which is looking into whether the former prime minister deceived Parliament about the parties, is expecting the former PM to testify before them in the coming weeks. If found guilty, he may be suspended or expelled from the House of Representatives.
