Ghana will allow visa-free entry for all African passport holders starting May 25, as part of sweeping immigration reforms. Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Ablakwa announced the policy, declared by President John Dramani Mahama during Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s inaugural state visit.

The move pairs with a new e-visa platform to spur tourism and intra-African trade. Ghana joins Benin, The Gambia, Rwanda, and Seychelles as the fifth nation offering such open access to fellow Africans.

Ablakwa called it a step to affirm Ghana’s Pan-African roots, expecting major economic gains. The administration also eyes easier travel for Ghanaians, with 23 new visa waiver deals secured since last year and more in the works.
