Among those freed from last Wednesday’s Benue Links bus kidn@pping are eight candidates who had been registered to write the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations.
The eight were part of the passengers aboard an 18-seater bus that was seized on April 15, 2026, as it headed to Otukpo, where the students were due to sit their exams. After roughly three days in the hands of their captors, they were released in the early hours of Sunday.
The freed passengers, including three female students, were escorted to the Benue State Government House in Makurdi by the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ifeanyi Emenari, alongside their families and guardians, in preparation for a formal reception by Governor Hyacinth Alia.
Those rescued showed clear signs of physical and emotional strain from their time in captivity, while verification procedures were still being completed ahead of the governor’s official reception.
