Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has expressed deep sorrow over the sudden death of his Senior Special Assistant on Protocol, Sunday Kotor, describing the loss as painful to the government and people of the state.
Kotor reportedly collapsed at a private event on Friday evening, March 20, and was immediately rushed to a medical facility. Efforts to revive him proved unsuccessful, and he was confirmed dead shortly after.
In a statement issued by Chief Press Secretary Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori paid glowing tribute to the late aide’s commitment and professionalism. “Late Sunday Kotor was wholly dedicated to his job. His passing is a huge loss, not only to his family but to the government and people of Delta State,” the statement read.
The governor also extended heartfelt condolences to Kotor’s family, including his younger brother, Conference Kotor, who currently serves in the same administration.
Sunday Kotor was a widely respected figure within Government House in Asaba, known for his calm authority and meticulous approach to state protocol and event management. A trained Master of Ceremonies, he had served across multiple administrations — including those of former governors Emmanuel Uduaghan and Ifeanyi Okowa — earning a reputation as one of the most reliable hands in Delta’s public service machinery.
A Mass Communication graduate of Delta State University, Abraka, Kotor hailed from Okwagbe in Ughelli South Local Government Area.
His sudden passing has triggered an outpouring of grief among colleagues, government officials, and associates, many of whom remembered him as a vibrant and selfless public servant whose quiet contributions to the smooth running of state functions will be deeply missed.
He is survived by family members and a legacy of dedicated service to Delta State.
