The creation of the Joint Border Patrol team and expanding the service’s armament in terms of competence to be able to combat smuggling and monitor the Nigerian borders, according to Comptroller-General of Customs Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali (Rtd), are producing the intended results.
The Comptroller-General was addressed during the weekly ministerial briefing held at the presidential palace in Abuja by the communications staff.
According to Col. Ali (Rtd), who claims that drug traffickers are getting more adept, the agency is changing how it operates in response to the dangers.
While the agency must promote commerce and create income, he continues, it is also assuring the security of Nigeria’s borders via a modernization process known as the E-customs project.
Regarding income creation and its 3.019 trillion aim Naira, the head of customs claims that despite difficulties such as not being able to collect the telecommunications tax, the organization has so far brought in 2.143 trillion for the federal government in 2022.
He lists some of the accomplishments of the service since taking office, such as changes to officer pay and benefits, reorganization of operational practices, and record income production.
