Former Transportation Minister and presidential hopeful Rotimi Amaechi has disowned the outcome of the African Democratic Congress presidential primary, declaring the announced results fraudulent and unworthy of recognition.

Amaechi made his stance public via his official X account on Tuesday, insisting that he would only honour results produced through a process that was genuinely free, fair, and transparent — a standard he argues the primaries fell far short of.

“I unequivocally reject the concocted results being announced,” the former Rivers State governor said, citing widespread reports of voter disenfranchisement across much of the country during the exercise. He claimed that close to 80 percent of party members were prevented from casting their votes.

Amaechi had reportedly signalled from the outset that his acceptance of the primary outcome was conditional on the credibility of the process. He maintained that position, stating he would not validate results that contradicted the very values the ADC was founded upon.

“I will not accept results from a process that does not reflect the values that the ADC had pledged to uphold,” he said, adding that the party exists to offer Nigerians a genuine alternative to the impunity and mismanagement he attributes to the ruling party.

The former minister questioned what morally separates the ADC from other parties if it tolerates the same internal electoral abuses it publicly condemns. He argued that a party which routinely criticises the All Progressives Congress and the Independent National Electoral Commission over vote buying and manipulation cannot credibly engage in similar conduct within its own structures.

Amaechi described the alleged irregularities — including vote buying, disenfranchisement, and result tampering — as fundamentally incompatible with democratic values, stressing that a party’s legitimacy rests entirely on its commitment to fairness and respect for members’ rights.
