The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has closed sales of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for its 2027 presidential ticket, with sources saying former Anambra governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi was the only person to purchase the presidential forms.

The party extended the deadline by one week for collecting Expression of Interest Forms for other elective offices — governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and State Houses of Assembly — moving the cut‑off from 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 17 to midnight on Sunday, May 24, 2026. The presidential filing window remains closed.

According to the NDC timetable, screening of aspirants who have purchased and completed forms will run from Tuesday, May 19 to Tuesday, May 26, 2026. Collection and return of Nomination Forms for aspirants who are screened and cleared will take place from May 20 to May 26, 2026. The party warned there will be no further extensions.
The NDC instructed all aspirants to attend screening and pre‑qualification interviews at designated venues nationwide and to present relevant documents in six copies, including educational certificates, birth certificate or declaration of age, passport photographs, voter’s card, party membership card and a curriculum vitae.
Screening criteria will include the wishes of the electorate, local peculiarities, capacity and competence, and character. The committee has been directed to consider the party’s affirmative‑action policy for women, youths and persons living with disabilities. Only aspirants cleared through screening will be eligible to buy nomination forms.
Obi, who recently joined the NDC from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), is widely expected to emerge as the party’s consensus presidential candidate.peter
