FCT High Court Issues Arrest Warrant for PDP Factional Chairman Kabiru Turaki

A Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court issued a bench warrant on Thursday for the arrest of Kabiru Turaki, SAN, a factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former Minister of Special Duties (2013–2015).

Justice Peter Kekemeke ordered the arrest after Turaki failed to appear for a one-count charge filed by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP). The charge, marked FCT/HC/CR/647/25 and filed on November 15, 2025, accuses Turaki of giving false information in a 2022 petition to the IGP.

The charge states: “That you, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, (SAN), ‘m’, No. 37 T.Y. Danjuma Street, Asokoro, Abuja, on or about October 5, 2022, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, gave false information to the Inspector-General of Police via a petition dated October 5, 2022.” This violates Section 140 of the Penal Code Law.

Prosecutor Usman Rabiu urged the court to invoke Section 143 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015 due to Turaki’s repeated no-shows.

The case, originally before Justice K.N. Ogbonnaya, shifted to Justice Kekemeke after Turaki petitioned the Chief Judge, citing lack of confidence in the handling. Ogbonnaya had refused the warrant, but Kekemeke ruled there was no excuse for Turaki’s absence despite proper service of notice. The court directed his arrest and production for arraignment.
