Anambra Commissioner Vows Prosecution for Maid Torture Suspect

The Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, has promised to arraign a 29-year-old woman accused of torturing her 17-year-old maid with a hot electric iron before a competent court.

According to LIB, the suspect, Osinachi Ede, was arrested by police on February 3, 2026. She allegedly pressed a hot iron on the victim—a student at Community Secondary School, Agulu Awka—as punishment for making a phone call.

Chuma-Udeh addressed Ede directly in her Awka office on Friday, February 20, insisting that prosecution would deter similar abuses. She also ordered the victim, previously sent to relatives, returned to Awka, underscoring the state government’s child protection commitment.

“The suspect will be arraigned to serve as a deterrent to others engaging in such acts,” Chuma-Udeh stated. This aligns with Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo’s focus on safeguarding every child in Anambra schools.

She added: “The governor’s interest is to ensure every child is protected from abuse. The full weight of the law will apply to anyone culpable of child brutality.”
