The Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, Shetima Mohammed, has announced a total ban on the burning of used tyres during crossover night activities to mark the New Year celebrations across the state.
The directive, issued in a statement on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, directs all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to enforce the ban strictly.
Mohammed warned that anyone caught violating the order would be arrested and prosecuted in line with the law. He explained that the ban aims to protect public and private infrastructure, prevent environmental pollution, maintain the free flow of traffic, and safeguard public safety during the festivities.
The Commissioner also urged vulcanisers to properly dispose of used tyres or secure them at the end of each business day to prevent misuse by the public. He further appealed to parents and guardians to caution their children and wards against burning tyres or engaging in any unlawful acts.
Mohammed reaffirmed the Nasarawa State Police Command’s commitment to ensuring a peaceful, safe, and hitch-free New Year celebration for all residents.
