Governor Yahaya Dismisses Four Aides Over Assault on Councillor

Gombe State

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has ordered the immediate dismissal of Adamu Abdullahi Danko and three other aides after an investigation into the assault of Hon. Abdulrahman Abubakar Sheriff, Councillor representing Shamaki Ward in Gombe Local Government Area.

Danko, who served as Senior Special Assistant II (Domestic) to the Governor, was captured on camera physically attacking the councillor in an alley within Gombe metropolis. The footage, which circulated widely online, sparked public outrage and condemnations from civil society groups and Amnesty International, with many demanding a full investigation.

The Director-General of Press Affairs at the Gombe Government House, Ismaila Uba Misilli, confirmed the dismissals in a statement issued on Tuesday, December 23, 2025. He said the Governor’s directive followed a report submitted by a special committee set up to investigate the matter.

According to Misilli, the committee’s findings — which were corroborated by security agencies — prompted the Governor’s decision. The other affected aides include Garba Mohammed Mai Rago (Senior Special Assistant II, Political), Rabiu Sulaiman Abubakar (Senior Special Assistant II, Social Media), and Ali Ibrahim Baban Kaya (Senior Special Assistant II, Community Relations).

All four officers have been instructed to surrender all government property in their possession immediately. Governor Yahaya reaffirmed his administration’s zero tolerance for violence, misconduct, and abuse of office, emphasizing that any action capable of disturbing public peace or undermining confidence in government will be met with firm discipline.

He assured Gombe residents of his government’s unwavering commitment to the rule of law, accountability, and peaceful coexistence, adding that decisive measures will always be taken to preserve public order and protect the state’s stability.
