A manhunt has been initiated by the Borno State Police Command for a suspect who is suspected of raping a 5-year-old girl in Maiduguri’s Low-Cost neighborhood.
In a statement made on Wednesday, December 16, 2025, the command’s spokeswoman, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, denied claims that Abdulsalam M. Adakwaki, the suspect, had been detained and later freed by the police.
The kid was raped by the suspect on November 13 while traveling to school, according to the PPRO. The statement stated, “The Borno State Police Command wishes to clarify issues arising from a social media post concerning an alleged case of sexual assault involving a 5-year-old minor at State Low-Cost area of Maiduguri.”
The Command confirms that a formal petition was received on 24/11/2025, regarding an incident that allegedly occurred on 13/11/2025 at about 9:00 a.m that a 5yr old Pupil was r@ped by one Abdulsalam M. Adakwaki AKA Yaro while on her way to school.
Upon receipt of the report, the Command immediately commenced investigation through the State Criminal Investigation Department on the allegation.
“Contrary to claims circulating on social media that the suspect was apprehended and subsequently released by the Police, the Command wishes to set the record straight that no arrest has been made in respect of this case. The suspect is currently at large, while Intensive efforts are ongoing to apprehend him.
“The Command have engaged community leaders, including the Lawan, while the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) has been requested to assist in locating and arresting the fleeing suspect.
“In the interest of transparency, accountability, and public confidence, the investigation is being conducted under appropriate supervision, with room for monitoring and engagement by relevant Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), in line with established procedures.
The Command appeals to members of the public who may have credible information on the whereabouts of the suspect to promptly report to the nearest police station or assist in ensuring his arrest and handover to the Police for further action.
