In the Jigawa province’s Buji Local Government Area, a 10-year-old child drowned.
This was verified in a statement published on Sunday in Dutse under the signature of CSC Adamu Shehu, the NSCDC’s Jigawa State spokesperson.
The child and his buddies were swimming in a pond in the Lelen Kudu hamlet when the boy drowned, the statement said.
“On Saturday, September 24, 2022, at about 1300 hours, the Command got a report of a 10-year-old child drowning in a nearby pond while he was swimming. Later, Sule Ya’u of Lelan Kudu Village, Buji LGA, was recognized as the man.
“The tragic situation happened when he and his buddies went swimming in the morning about 11:30, but he vanished in the water. Local divers eventually found his dead in the flooded pond after two hours of search and rescue attempts.
“Upon arriving at the hospital, he was declared dead, and his parents were given the keys to the cemetery.
The State Commandant, Musa Alhaji Mala (CC), said that the Command will not give up on warning parents to prevent their children from swimming in flooded ponds, rivers, and surface waters.
