A mother who organised her son and his friends to viciously assault Mr. Abdul Ishaka, a staff member of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc (AEDC), in Nasarawa State, has been placed on remand by a Nasarawa State court.

Concerns about the safety of energy utility employees nationwide were raised after the DisCo reported in a statement on Thursday, February 12, 2026, that the staff member had been battered to unconsciousness while doing a lawful enforcement task in the state.

The statement claims that the incident happened on February 10 at around 13:00 while Ishaka, a Customer Representative Officer (CRO) assigned to the Karshi Service Center, Masaka Business Office, was carrying out his official duties.

When Mr. Ishaka questioned why the customer had unlawfully “hung” her service line to restore electricity after being terminated for non-payment (DNP), the customer, identified as Mrs. Laraba Waziri, rallied her son and his friends to attack him.

Records indicate that the customer’s account carries a total outstanding debt of N272,499.47.
It said the assault was severe, leaving the staff member unconscious. He was rushed to Emmanuel Baptist Clinic for emergency first aid before being transferred to the Federal Medical Center, Keffi, where he remains on admission receiving treatment.
“In a swift response to the violent act, the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) personally intervened, directing the Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police to fast-track the investigation.
“The primary suspect was detained and arraigned before the Senior Magistrate Court, Auta Balefi, where she has been remanded in police detention until other suspects who are at large are apprehended,” the statement added.
