Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has doubled down on his prediction that Senator Ireti Kingibe will not secure re-election to the Senate in 2027, pointing to her failure to deliver any tangible projects for FCT residents.
Speaking at a media parley in Abuja on Monday, Wike challenged Kingibe—who represents the FCT on the Labour Party platform since her 2023 election—to name even one achievement. “I had said it more than one year ago: Senator Ireti, you won’t come back as a senator. That’s why you people don’t like people who tell you the truth. It’s bitter. Let her show one project,” he declared.
Wike criticized Kingibe’s absence from satellite towns, where voter turnout is typically high. “She is not there. Go to the satellite towns where the real voters are. She is not there,” he said. He first made this forecast publicly in 2024.
The comments follow Kingibe’s recent accusations that Wike has ignored her letters and messages about rising insecurity, water scarcity, and other welfare issues in the FCT, claiming he shows little commitment to residents.
During the same event, Wike defended his visits to about 10 polling units during the recent FCT area council elections, despite opposition criticism. “I’m the governor of FCT. For security, I have to find out what is going on. I don’t need to be told,” he stated. As chief security officer and not a candidate, he rejected claims of influencing the results: “And how does it influence the election? I wasn’t on the ballot and I never said people should vote for any party.”
