Residents of Onitsha, Anambra State, have been thrown into mourning following the alleged m#rder of a local businessman known as Lyke by his teenage apprentice. The tragic incident reportedly occurred on Sunday in the Fegge area of Onitsha.
According to reports, the suspect, an 18-year-old apprentice identified only as Chiemerie from Ebonyi State, allegedly att@cked his master with a mortar pestle, leading to the victim’s de@th. The motive behind the assault remains unclear, but the shocking act has sparked widespread concern and debate about the rising cases of violence involving apprentices, popularly known as nwa boi, in southeastern Nigeria.
A close associate of the deceased, Franklin Akunebiokwu, shared a touching tribute on social media, praying for God’s comfort for the grieving family and healing for Lyke’s sister, who is said to be hospitalized following the incident.
In a separate post, Facebook user OBC Afunwa claimed the victim was a trader at the popular Ogbo Ogwu market in Onitsha and urged business owners to exercise caution when selecting apprentices. “Many of them belong to gangs,” he warned in the viral post.
The tragic de@th has drawn sympathy from across Anambra State, with many calling for stricter mentorship monitoring and better conflict management within the Igbo apprenticeship system.
