On December 10, 2024, the Kano State Police Command announced the arrest of three individuals for possessing counterfeit currencies valued at approximately N129 billion. The suspects, identified as Nura Ibrahim, Muhammed Muntari, and Usman Abdullahi, were apprehended following intelligence-led operations in Gwale, Kano State
- The recovered counterfeit currencies include $3,366,000 in fake US dollars, CFA 51,970,000, and N1,443,000 in counterfeit naira. This significant seizure highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat economic crimes in Nigeria
- Additional Recoveries and Investigations: Alongside the counterfeit currency, police also seized various items including six live ammunition rounds, three tricycles, eight motorcycles, and parcels containing dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. The suspects are currently in custody and are assisting police with investigations to identify the producers of the counterfeit currency
