During the burial services for the late goalie Peter Rufai, former Super Eagles defender Taribo West was unable to control his emotions.
Speaking passionately, the former Inter Milan player blasted the Nigerian Football Association and Lagos State for ignoring the late football legend’s family.
He says it’s tragic how Nigerian football handles its heroes after they pass away. He likened Rufai’s situation to the tragic tales of deceased Super Eagles greats Rasheed Yekini, Stephen Keshi, and Thompson Oleha.
Taribo talked about how the neglect caused him so much grief that he broke down in tears, something he didn’t do when his own parents passed away, and had “goose pimples” all over his body.
In his words:
“With this kind of example, I will never advise even my son to put his feet for this country… Do we have a football federation or a football association in Lagos State? That this hero, this soldier, this football evangelist has to be treated this way and his family?”
He further lamented that Rufai’s family had to beg for money within their circle just to cover expenses, calling it “madness.”
