Sheikh Gumi: Foreign nations supporting terr#rists in Nigeria

Sheikh Ahmad Gumi,

Sheikh Ahmad Gumi a well-known Islamic scholar, has accused foreign nations of supporting terrorists in Nigeria. In an interview with the BBC Hausa Service, Sheikh Gumi made this accusation.

He asserted that recent trends in attacks throughout the nation point to outside assistance for armed organizations active in Nigeria.

The Islamic cleric went on to say that the current state of affairs runs counter to past indications of improved national security.

He cited the Abuja–Kaduna highway, which was formerly thought to be a lethal route for commuters, pointing out that prior to the recent spike in violence, the road had much improved in safety.

According to him, farmers in Birnin Gwari, Kaduna State, who had long abandoned their farmlands due to persistent threats, had gradually resumed farming activities, an indication that the security environment had shown signs of stability before the latest spike in attacks.

Gumi insisted that the sudden reversal in progress raises questions that cannot be ignored.

He urged the Nigerian government to intensify intelligence operations, strengthen diplomatic engagements, and scrutinise all external links that may be fuelling insecurity.
