Real Madrid’s difficulties in La Liga persist as they suffer a 2-0 loss to Real Sociedad.

Real Madrid’s attempt to narrow the gap with Barcelona in the La Liga standings was dealt another blow on Tuesday night as they lost 2-0 to Real Sociedad.

The absence of Vinicius Junior, who was suspended, and the rested Karim Benzema, made it difficult for Madrid to create scoring opportunities.

Takefusa Kubo, who used to play for Madrid, opened the scoring for Sociedad soon after the break, while Ander Barrenetxea scored later in the match to secure the victory.

While Barcelona secured a 1-0 win against Osasuna, Madrid struggled to keep pace without their star players. Los Blancos faced early struggles as Alex Remiro of Sociedad saved Eder Militao’s header and Martin Zubimendi’s flick-on hit the crossbar. Thibaut Courtois made an impressive save with his feet to deny David Silva from scoring.

Despite Mikel Oyarzabal’s penalty appeal being denied, Kubo took advantage of Militao’s careless pass back to Courtois to score the first goal. Madrid’s problems worsened when Dani Carvajal was sent off for a second reckless tackle, and Barrenetxea sealed the victory for Sociedad with a low finish.

Real Madrid now trail La Liga leaders Barcelona by 14 points with just five games remaining. With their upcoming UEFA Champions League semi-final against Manchester City, Madrid may prioritize that over their pursuit of the La Liga title. On Saturday, Real Madrid will face Osasuna, while Sociedad will play against Girona.
