A well-known impostor who pretended to be a Colonel in the Nigerian Army in order to defraud unwary victims has been taken into custody by the Ondo State Police Command.

Following a comprehensive investigation that exposed his involvement in a N1.3 million employment fraud, the suspect, Abdullahi Saliu, a resident of the Top Quality Hotel, was taken into custody.

In a statement released on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, DSP Olushola Ayanlade, the command spokeswoman, stated

Saliu allegedly deceived two victims, Oshoade Janet and Daisi Remilekun Joy, into giving him N1,377,000 by pretending that he would get their sons jobs in the Nigeria Customs and Immigration Services, according to the PPRO.

Investigations, however, showed that Saliu was unrelated to the services and had taken advantage of the funds for his own benefit.

Saliu’s extensive operations were revealed by subsequent investigations, and victims were located in Edo, Delta, Kogi, and Ondo, among other states.

To win the trust of his victims, the suspect had been posing as top personnel of various security organizations, such as the Nigerian Army, Navy, and Customs and Immigration Service.

“All of the actions are an attempt to defraud innocent citizens of their hard-earned money,” Ayanlade continued.

Saliu has been arraigned before Magistrate Court 1 for proper prosecution, according to the spokeswoman.

The Ondo State Police Command has reaffirmed its dedication to safeguarding citizens’ lives and property while making sure that those responsible for fraud are held accountable.
