Man jailed three years for false accusation in Osun

Rotimi Orowole, age 31, was given a three-year prison sentence with hard labor for making false accusations by an Osun State Magistrates Court in Osogbo on Tuesday.

According to Orowole, he was hired by Dr. Alhassan Ogunleye, the former Registrar of the Federal Polytechnic in Ede, Osun State, to kill Dr. John Edaogbogun, the institution’s then-Rector; Dr. Olofu Romanus, the Chief Medical Director; and a guy named Mr. Elkanah Aruwajoye.

Ogunleye informed the court that he was detained at his home in Osogbo on June 2, 2019, by a few officers from the now-defunct federal SARS from the Adeniji Adele Police Station in Lagos State.

Following his arrest, the former registrar was brought to a Lagos State police station, where Orowole charged him with providing

 

The case was later transferred to Osun State, where the police, after investigation, found Ogunleye not culpable.

The police, thereafter, charged Rotimi to court on four counts  of conspiracy, possession of firearms, false accusation, and criminal defamation.

The prosecutor from the state Ministry of Justice, Mr Abiodun Badiora, had during the trial, told the court that Orowole, a native of Ile Ife, conspired with other people to raise false allegations against the former registrar.
