Under the pretense of a peace initiative, Hon. Abdu Goya, the chairman of the Funtua Local Government Area in Katsina State, has met with armed groups engaged in banditry.
Goya’s meeting with the armed groups coincides with increased diplomatic strain as a result of US President Donald Trump’s threat of military action and his designation of Nigeria as a “country of particular concern,” citing alleged religious persecution.
SaharaReporters claims that the LG chairman’s visit, which took place in several areas of Funtua, was intended to strengthen “ongoing peace efforts” between the armed Fulani groups and the Hausa people, who had previously participated in deadly conflicts.
Goya’s mission was said to have focused on fostering mutual understanding, rebuilding trust, and reinforcing dialogue between the warring groups
He also used the occasion to push for the release of individuals abducted during past conflicts in the area.
It was gathered that Goya noted that the purpose of the visit is to deepen the peace process already initiated between the armed Fulani and Hausa communities.
