Content creator and filmmaker Cynthia Shalom believes that Nigerian audiences are looking for more than surface-level entertainment—they’re searching for stories that feel genuine, relatable, and impactful.
In a recent interview with Potpourri, Shalom highlighted the need for authenticity in the Nigerian entertainment space.
“Audiences want content that reflects real life—not just perfection,” she explained. “We already have enough entertainment and trends, but people are yearning for stories about love, struggles, identity, growth, and everyday life. They want content that makes them laugh and also makes them feel seen. Creators who focus on truth and value will always stand out.”
Speaking on her approach to trends and personal branding, Shalom stressed the importance of staying authentic.
“Trends are temporary—they fade. But your values and personal brand endure,” she said. “I don’t feel pressured to chase every viral moment. I align only with what represents my message and my voice. For me, consistency and honesty matter more than quick success. When you stay true to yourself, you attract an audience that truly connects with you—and that bond lasts longer than any algorithm.”
Offering a word of advice to aspiring creators, Shalom encouraged purpose-driven storytelling over shock value.
“Focus on purpose, not pressure,” she advised. “Relevance doesn’t come from controversy. Be clear about what you stand for, create with intention, and stay consistent. Originality and genuine storytelling will always outshine cheap attention.
