The Tafawa Balewa Square High Court of Lagos has declared as wanted Aremu Musiliu, a former police officer accused of the murder of Comfort Udoh in 2015.
Aremu, on September 16, 2015, allegedly shot Comfort in the head at Ijegun Bus Stop, after a failed attempt to extort N2,000 from Comfort’s husband, Pastor Godwin Udoh of the Full Gospel Church of God.
Comfort, her husband, and their four children, including an eleven-month-old baby, were returning home from a church programme when their tricycle was stopped by Aremu and other officers.
Udoh, who sustained gunshot wounds to the jaw and shoulder during the incident, said he pleaded with the officers, explaining they had no money.
PUNCH Metro exclusively gathered on Thursday that the court’s declaration followed repeated failures of both the police and correctional authorities to produce Aremu in court, despite multiple summonses.
Though Aremu was dismissed and initially remanded, PUNCH Metro exclusively reported that he was granted bail in 2017.
Justice O.A. Taiwo of Court 26, Ikeja High Court, had earlier criticised the DPP’s handling of the case, citing it as the reason for the bail
