Edo attack: Nobody has monopoly of violence – Peter Obi

Peter Obi, former Anambra governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, declared that no one has a monopoly on violence and insisted nobody can bar him from visiting any part of Nigeria.

Speaking at Peter University in Achina, Anambra State, Obi responded to the Benin City incident and social media threats warning him against certain areas. “I am a Nigerian, free to go anywhere—it’s a constitutional right no one can take away,” he said. He cited his recent Rivers State visit despite warnings, undeterred by threats post-Benin.

Obi, who plans to run for president in 2027 under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), alleged orchestrated efforts to block him from the ballot. “I’m not desperate to be president, but desperate to make Nigeria work,” he stated. “Nigeria has collapsed due to greedy elites hoarding wealth. Declare a free, fair election—bring the ball to the center—and we’ll see what happens.”
