Channels TV cameraman d!es after Bauchi road crash

Kani Ben, a cinematographer for Channels Television, has d!Recovering from spinal cord injuries he received in a horrific traffic accident in the state of Bauchi.

 

The tragedy happened in the Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State on Friday, February 6, 2026, along the Yashi–Yelwan Duguri Road.

Ben was receiving treatment at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBU-TH), Bauchi, when he passed away at around 4:00 a.m. on Sunday, February 15.

He was among 13 journalists from various media organisations involved in the crash while covering the commissioning of projects by the North East Development Commission (NEDC) in the state.

 

The victims sustained varying degrees of injuries, including head injuries, bruises and compound fractures.

It happened shortly after a delegation led by the Minister of State for Regional Development, Alhaji Uba Maigari Ahmadu, commissioned and handed over a Government Secondary School in Yelwan Duguri.

Eyewitnesses said the vehicle conveying the journalists attempted to overtake a convoy when it veered off the road and somersaulted several times, throwing the occupants out.

 

Ben, who was seated in the front of the vehicle, suffered severe spinal cord injuries.

 

He underwent surgery a day after the crash but later d!ed while receiving treatment.

 

He is survived by his wife and two children.
