The Benue State Police Command thwarted a kidnapping plot and rescued victim Akume Geoffrey unhurt in the early hours of Thursday, December 25, 2025.
According to Command spokesperson DSP Udeme Edet, the incident unfolded around 3:00 a.m. along the Tiortu area as Geoffrey traveled from Gboko to Makurdi. Armed suspects, believed to be kidnappers, intercepted him, abducted him by force, and tried to drag him into a nearby forest.
Police operatives responded swiftly to a distress alert, launching intensive patrols and a coordinated search. The suspects spotted the patrol team and heard sirens, abandoning Geoffrey before fleeing into the bush.
The unharmed victim was taken to Abinse Police Station, where Commissioner of Police CP Ifeanyi Emenari personally debriefed him. Geoffrey was soon reunited with his family, and operations continue to hunt down the fleeing suspects.
CP Emenari praised the team’s quick action and professionalism. He reaffirmed the command’s dedication to safeguarding lives and property, especially during the festive season, noting intensified patrols, stop-and-search operations, and intelligence-led policing at key state locations.
He urged residents to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies immediately.
