Kingsley Okonkwo, a relationship coach and senior pastor at David’s Christian Center, has called on men to seek partners who can actively contribute to building a shared future, rather than pursuing women who are financially dependent on them.

Through a series of social media posts, Okonkwo argued that a growing number of men are becoming reluctant to marry because they view matrimony as a financial drain rather than an equal partnership.

He expressed concern that men have grown too accustomed to taking on partners who offer little financial input, suggesting this dynamic is a key reason why fewer men embrace the idea of marriage today.

The cleric urged men to raise their standards by prioritizing financially independent women, arguing that doing so could motivate more women to build their own economic footing rather than treating relationships as a means of financial rescue.

Okonkwo also took aim at what he described as a cultural norm that saddles men alone with the financial weight of relationships, contending that such expectations are both socially destructive and inconsistent with biblical values. He argued that just as women often seek financially capable men, men should equally feel entitled to expect financially contributing partners.

The pastor also addressed men who intentionally pursue vulnerable or economically struggling women, warning that doing so out of a desire for dominance causes broader harm. He stressed that every individual possesses inherent worth and potential, and that allowing people to develop their abilities benefits everyone involved.
