The Rivers State Police Command has summoned key officials, including the Chief Security Officer (CSO) and Chief of Staff (CoS), following a brutal attack on Goodluck Iheanachor, the Sole Administrator of Ahoada East Local Government Area. The incident occurred on June 20, 2025, at the council secretariat.
According to police reports, about 30 hoodlums, allegedly led by Hector Ekakita, who doubles as the CSO and CoS to Iheanachor, stormed the council premises and violently assaulted the administrator. During the attack, Iheanachor was beaten, tortured, and forced to sign a resignation letter under duress. The assailants also stole his mobile phones and carted away vital official and personal documents from his office.
The attack was captured in a disturbing video that circulated widely on social media, showing Iheanachor being manhandled by the attackers while they demanded he sign the resignation letter. The Council Secretary, Alabi Umegbewe, was also assaulted during the ordeal.
Iheanachor is currently hospitalized and receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained but is reported to be in stable condition. He has denied authoring the resignation letter, describing it as fabricated and forced upon him.
The Rivers State Police Commissioner, Olugbenga Adepoju, condemned the attack as a heinous and reprehensible act. He visited the scene alongside other security agency heads and ordered the immediate arrest of all suspects involved. The police have directed the CSO, CoS, and others implicated to report to the State Police Headquarters in Port Harcourt for questioning. Failure to comply will attract serious consequences.
The police have launched a manhunt for the attackers and urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies to maintain peace and stability in the state.
This incident has sparked outrage and raised concerns about political intimidation and violence within the local government administration.
