Three men between the ages of 20 and 22 have been taken into custody in relation to the gruesome murder of Koketso Ramahlo, a 17-year-old girl in South Africa.
On New Year’s Day, Koketso’s partially burned body was found on a roadway close to her home in the Gauteng province’s Hammanskraal.
SAPS district spokeswoman Warrant Officer Marinda Austin stated that the suspects will be charged with murder and will appear in court on Tuesday, January 7.
According to Koketso’s family, who are still in shock, they didn’t know if she had gone out with her boyfriend the night before she was killed.
Her mother, Nkhenthani Ramahlo, was too distraught to speak to the media but a close family friend Julia Mkhari, spoke on her behalf.
“The pain she is enduring is palpable, and I am deeply affected by it as well,” Mkhari said.
She claimed that after celebrating the new year with her pals on December 31, Koketso went back home to change before going out once more.
Her family began a search on January 2 after she failed to return home.
The adolescent girl’s grandmother discovered a partially burned and lifeless body in the roadway close to their house on January 3, the following day.
After family noted that the body was discovered nude, it was eventually determined that the body belonged to the missing girl.
The family is still reeling from the shock, we are deeply saddened and never thought something like this could happen to us,” Mkhari said.
In response to the tragedy, the community held a meeting on Friday, resolving to organise a manhunt for the alleged killer.
Community leader Bulo Dinokeng urged residents to remain calm and not take the law into their own hands, despite widespread anger and outrage over the murder.
At this stage, we don’t know who the perpetrator is and speculation about the killer’s identity is premature,” he said.
