An Abuja native doctor, Ismail Usman, is currently hospitalized after a dangerous incident involving a self-made “bulletproof” charm. On November 29, 2024, Usman reportedly shot himself in the stomach while testing the effectiveness of this charm using a locally fabricated shotgun. The charm failed to protect him, resulting in severe injuries that required immediate medical attention
Upon receiving a distress call from a local resident, police officers from the Byazhin Division responded quickly and transported Usman to Kubwa General Hospital for emergency treatment. Due to the critical nature of his injuries, he was later transferred to Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital, where medical staff are working to stabilize his condition
In addition to his medical troubles, Usman faces legal repercussions. The police have indicated that he will be charged with unlawful possession of firearms and attempted suicide under Section 231 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria. Following the incident, authorities conducted a search of his residence, recovering the homemade gun and various charms associated with his practices
